Obedience Classes
Obedience classes are held in the Renton-Maple Valley Arena. Our classes provide a positive, supportive environment for you, your family and your dog to learn basic and advanced obedience. Our obedience program is designed to assist you in teaching your dog excellent manners at home. Advanced obedience classes also teach your dog to act as a true companion, accompanying you into the community.
Rally Obedience
Rally Obedience or RallyO is a fun sport for handlers to enjoy with their dogs. In RallyO, handlers and dogs learn to navigate a numbered course made up of individual task stations. RallyO is an ongoing class, and is appropriate for teams who are just starting out, or those preparing to compete. Pre-requisites: Intermediate obedience with Monique, or instructor approval.
Puppy Pre-School
For puppies 5 months or less shy small and toy breeds. Puppies are introduced to sit, down, walking on a leash, and coming when they are called! In addition, puppy play time for socialization will be provided and house training, nutrition, health care, mouthing, digging, chewing, jumping up, and other puppy problems will be covered. Do not bring your dog the first week!
Beginning Obedience
Dogs learn controlled leash walking, sit-stay, down-stay, coming when called, and appropriate social behaviors. Behavior problems, nutrition, and health care are also covered. Do not bring your dog the first week!
Intermediate Obedience
Dogs who have completed Beginning Obedience with Seattle Agility Center or with instructors approval are welcome. Dogs increase sit and down stay skills, perfect coming when called, work on beginning off leash control, and learn drop on recalls. Games are used in class to keep dogs and handlers interested. Bring your dog the first week.
Advanced Obedience
Dogs who have completed Intermediate Obedience or with instructors approval are welcome. Continuing off leash control, retrieving, jumping and signals are some of the fun, advanced activities taught in this class. Bring your dog the first week.
Agility Classes
Seattle Agility Center offers the area's only 7 days a week indoor agility facility for recreational and competition students. Our program features a 65' X 120' indoor arena with compacted sawdust floor, regulation competition equipment, student drop-in practice sessions, video taping and feedback, and seminars and workshops. Bring your dog the first week to all agility classes.
Puppy Pre-Agility
For all puppies 2-6 months of age with proper immunizations. Puppies and handlers have a safe introduction to agility specially geared toward the learning style and physical needs of puppies. A great foundation for the future star, or a fun way to spend an hour with your new friend.
Agility 101
For all non-aggressive dogs over 6 months of age with on leash control. This course provides dogs and handlers a safe introduction to all of the agility equipment used in competition. This foundation will prepare teams to continue enjoying recreational agility or competition agility. Prerequisite: Beginning Home Obedience classes or instructor permission.
Agility 102
This course continues to develop a strong foundation in obstacle negotiation and handling skills. Teams will also increase off-leash control and communication. Prerequisite: Agility 101 or instructor permission if dog has had agility experience elsewhere.
Advanced Handling
For students who have completed Agility 102, but still do not have off-leash control of their dogs, or who want to continue with agility but not competition training at this time. Advanced handling skills will be taught, and jumpers and standard courses run.
Agility Competition Training Classes
Novice, Open, and Elite
Novice Competition Classes prepare dogs and handlers for beginning level competition. In Open and Elite Prep, you practice and refine advanced competition skills and strategies on AKC, USDAA and NADAC courses, as well as work to improve handling and teamwork with exercises and training games. Classes are divided and work in small groups of three to five people that rotate through three equipment areas. One features course work, another training exercises, and the third focuses on obstacle discrimination, weave pole entries, and other specific skills. There will be an instructor/coach for each area, video taping for feedback, and maps provided in advance so you can plan and make the most of each class. These classes are on-going with a monthly fee.
To register for competition classes, in addition to instructor approval, the following pre-requisites apply:
- For all classes, you must have off leash control, be able to keep the dog on task (no ditz runs, excess sniffing, dog aggression, etc.) know how to perform all the equipment, and be able to run a full course.
- Dog and Handler must have at least 1 leg in Novice Standard for the Open Prep class, or have at least one Open leg for the Elite Prep Class.
